Label: Loose Records and Music

Music genre: Folk/Comedy

Famed beyond the West Country through “Cider Drinker” and “Combine Harvester” the Wurzels were tempted to Cumbria to record “I want to be an Eddie Stobart driver”.

The song, brainchild of Loose owner Andy Titcombe, was Loose Records first UK top 100 entry in the 90s and heralded the first return of the Wurzels to the chart for many years.

Song Lyrics – I want to be an Eddie Stobart Driver

I want to be an Eddie Stuart Driver
Behind the wheel is where I want to be
O let me be an Eddie Stobart Driver (ooh ahh)
The finest firm in haulage history

Everywhere you go y’know, you can spot the Eddie Spotters
Stobart’s the name they want to see
And all the other trucks and trailers
Are just counted out as failures
And anyway he’s the only man for me

I want to be an Eddie Stobart Driver
Nowadays we all sing Eddie’s praise
O let me be an Eddie Stobart Driver
‘Cos Eddie Stobart rules the motorways

I want to hear the children
I want to hear them cheer like they cheer Eddie
When he overtakes us from afar (ooh aah)
With his fan club is expanding
He leaves the others standing
I’d love to be a Stobart superstar

I want to be an Eddie Stobart Driver
Behind the wheel is where I want to be
O let me be an Eddie Stobart Driver
The finest firm in haulage history

Spoken:
(Come on; let’s take it up a cog
Keep on a-truckin)

Now I’ll tell you just how far I’ll
Go on up to Carlisle
Tell you what I’ll do when I arrive
I’m gonna walk right up to Eddie
And tell him that I’m ready
So put I on the road now and let I drive

I want to be an Eddie Stobart Driver
That’s exactly what I want to be
And if I can’t be an Eddie Stobart Driver
I’m going home to burn my HGV (2)

Spoken:
I shall be burning my Wurzels scarf as well then
Cos I shall have a brand new Eddie Stobart suit
I shall have proper job then
Mother’ll be as proud as punch
